Well-MED: The Newest International Physician Health Gathering of Minds

Efharis Panagopoulou, PhD (Aristotle University Medical School, Greece) and Anthony Montgomery, PhD (University of Macedonia, Greece) recently launched the "First International Meeting on Wellbeing and Performance in Clinical Practice" in Alexandroupolis, Greece.

There have been similar conferences elsewhere in Europe (in fact, very soon will be the International Conference on Physician Health in London, England), Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Canada and there is much need and interest in more opportunities for scholarly work and connectivity in the field of health professional health.

This event attracted an all-star list of keynote speakers and invited experts on physician health including Canada's own experts Dr. Jean Wallace, Dr. Pierre Gagne, Dr. Todd Hill and Dr. Joan Horton.

The theme of the event was "Doctors think. Doctors feel. Doctors do." and attracted participants from 31 countries involved in medicine, nursing, psychology, ethics, sociology and economics.

The conference has published abstracts from its amazing agenda for broad dissemination - a very useful and practical outcome. For those interested in the field, the abstracts are worth the read. You can follow them on Facebook as well.

Hopefully, there will be a 2nd conference - congratulations to all!

About me

Dr. Puddester is the Director of Physician Health at the Canadian Medical Association and provides support to the Canadian Physician Health Institute. He also is a clinical associate with the Ontario Medical Association's Physician Workplace Support Program.

He is the Special Project Lead for Innovation/Evaluation in the Postgraduate Medical Education Office at uOttawa where he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Puddester also is a certified Vitalsmarts trainer in Crucial Conversations, Confrontations, Accountability and Influencer courses. He is also a certified executive coach and exclusively coaches physicians and other health care leaders.

Dr. Puddester obtained his B.A., B. Med. Sc., and M.D. from Memorial University of Newfoundland. He completed a residency in Psychiatry at McMaster University, and a fellowship in child/adolescent psychiatry at University of Ottawa. In 2008, he completed a M.Ed. at uOttawa. In 2011, he completed the Graduate Program in Executive Coaching at Royal Roads University.

Dr. Puddester is the lead editor of the RCPSC'sCanMEDS Physician Health Guide and co-author of the RCPSC's Time Management Guide. He also produced Carpe Diem (a physician resiliency documentary), and was the project lead for ePhysicianHealth.com and eWorkplaceHealth.com.

Additionally, the Internal Medicine division convention would not permit the occupant doctor to think of me a medication remedy for off name use. physician in chapin sc
